Three jobs, done quietly

Wiremend lives in the menu bar. You look at it only when something is off.

Watches

A small mark in the menu bar turns green, orange or red, with your Internet latency next to it. Checked every 30 seconds.

Diagnoses

Wi-Fi signal, router, Internet, DNS, VPN and captive portals, checked one hop at a time. The answer comes in plain words, not ping output.

Repairs

Seven levels, the right one highlighted. Or Auto repair: it walks down the list and stops as soon as you are back online.

From gentle to drastic

Most problems go away at the first steps, without dropping your connection. The drastic ones ask before they run, and tell you what they will interrupt.

Built for real networks

Office VPNs, DNS filters and hotel Wi-Fi fool simple checkers. Wiremend looks at your network the way your apps do, so it does not raise false alarms.

VPN awareKnows a connected VPN from an idle client, including Cisco Secure Client and GlobalProtect.
DNS filtersRecognizes Cisco Umbrella and split DNS instead of blaming your router.
IPv4 and IPv6Tests name lookups on both, in parallel, like your browser does.
Captive portalsTells you when a hotel or train login page is in the way.

Private by design

No account. No personal data leaves your Mac. To test the connection, Wiremend talks only to a short list of public test addresses, and here it is.

Questions

Why does it ask for my password?

Some repairs, like restarting the DNS resolver, need administrator rights on macOS. Wiremend explains each one before macOS asks, and asks once per repair, not once per step.

Why is it not on the Mac App Store?

App Store apps cannot ask for administrator rights, so they could only watch your network, not repair it. Wiremend is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple instead.

Will it break my company VPN?

The first five levels leave your VPN alone. Levels 6 and 7 drop it, and Wiremend asks before running them.

Which languages does it speak?

English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). It follows your macOS language.

Next time the Wi-Fi acts up, you will know why.
